$52 for a one-day Krav Maga seminar?

do u think paying that amount for the seminar is all right, or a bit pricey? the Tactical Training Seminar will be conducted by Tommy Bloom (an Expert 4 Level Instructor of Krav Maga) and will last for 5 hours.

also… what to expect in a martial arts seminar? i havent been to one, so i want to at least have an idea on what im going to pay for. will it be like a regular trianing where it’s all physical activity; or will it be a lecture/listening while you are seated down type (hence the term seminar).

Im not sure what a martial arts seminar will be like but I would pay that much to see tommy bloom. I love krav maga I only wish we had classes near where I live

  2. $50 is about right for 5 hours.

That’s kind of the going rate nowadays, although they would have to pay me to take a krap maga seminar.

Its a rip off. Basically they are going to tell you krav-maga is the best system in the world, give you a couple of quick little ” things you can do “, and then ask who’d like to sign up for a membership.

Divide 5 into $52=$10.20.When and where is this? You’re probably paying for his time, refreshments, the rental of the hall etc. There may be a need for volunteers to show some moves.

In order to learn how to fight, you need to develop muscle memory. Krav Maga classes are unfortunately rare, and the most common method of KM training is a course or seminar lasting one or several day/s. The techniques are demonstrated and drilled briefly before moving on to the next part of the course. You can have brilliant understanding of theory, techniques, combat principles, etc, but unless you have hours and hours of practice in putting these theories/techniques/principles into effect in actual combat, you will learn nothing. Your muscles need to have repeated the motions against a resisting opponent – that is, a sparring partner, or a partner in a non-compliant drill – in order for them to remember the techniques inherently. If someone grabs you on the street you will experience an adrenaline dump – that is, your body goes into fight or flight mode. Your heart will start beating at an extremely fast rate to pump the required blood to your body to enable you to run like hell to get out of there. In such a situation you will not have time to think, “Hmm, what was it that I learnt in that Krav Maga program a few weeks ago? Oh yeah, this hand goes here, this leg goes here….” Instead, you must react in an instinctive manner, with as little thinking as possible. Reactions need to be quick and from physical memory. The techniques you use in a fight need to be trained to the point of instinctiveness. As of such you cannot learn the techniques quickly as those Krav Maga instructors will tell you; you have to attend regular training sessions (several times a week) and practice them again and again against a resisting opponent. Only after extensive training will techniques become ‘instinctive.’ You need a place to train at regularly against resisting opponents at Krav Maga (usually) offers niether of those.

Okay, now that I’ve had my little rant about Krav Maga, I’ll answer your question. ;)

$50 for a seminar lasting five hours isn’t SO bad – you might learn something interesting, but you certainly wont learn how to fight. It’s a good price actually in comparison to what Krav Maga instructors usually charge. The instructor will begin with a lot of theory stuff related to self-defence (such as situational awareness, when to fight and when to run, etc), Krav Maga (history, principles, etc) and such. Then he’ll probably have the students pair up and drill certain techniques that he’ll be demonstrating. My recommendation is that if you attend the seminar and want to genuinely benefit from it, find a training partner or friend who is willing to practice with you, and train those techniques over and over again. The seminar will -show- you how to do the techniques, but you wont -learn- how to do them. As I said above, regular practice is required for the technique to become instinctive.

I would say that is a deal. I’ve trained & taught in Krav Maga & the seminar’s that we attended were around that range, if not more for a full day.

I would come ready to train, hydrated and ready to puke.

Krav teaches self defense to anyone and that means it will get you in shape(over time of course) and able to have the stamina & technique to be more confident in your abilities to defend yourself or someone else.

The normal seminar will be a brief intro, history, rundown of techniques and then move on to demonstrations and eventually hands on practice & drills.

Oh man I miss these classes. Enjoy.

I concur with the above post from “Tim” about needing to do this regularly and training 60%-100% in class. I havent taught Krav in 2-3 years & I feel my skills, technique & stamina have diminished drastically.

the price is decent. although i agree with sensei scandal, i would not take krav maga,
it’s not a martial art but a self defense system

  8. its not bad for a seminar but if you have no experience in any art, it will be a waste of time and money. If you train they can be different depending on the individual giving the seminar. in some you will get a little lecture then a technique followed by corrections. then you go to another technique. in 5 hrs you will probably get about 6 drills. Krav Maga is a great art and while I don’t practice it, I have gone to a few of their seminars.I have found that the ones that have come from Israel are far superior to the american counterparts
