I need to loose weight. To do this I have been looking into martial arts as I know they are good for fitness.
I am looking for a traditional, external, striking martial art which obviously has a large fitness component.
Please help!!!

it all depends on your instructors. I’ve had good instructors and lazy instructors.
some trainers will dicipline you and some won’t. I’d say your best bet would be to try kickboxing because it’s a high intensity sport even if you have a lazy teacher.
Tbh you should go running and diet to loose some weight before martial arts….. You could hurt yourself if your overweight and trying to do a triple overhead spin kick :l
the brazilian dance of war kapowera is very physical. xing yi quan,
muay thai…there are tons
Tai-Chi: very deadly but you look like a sissy at times. XD
Much physical and mental activity in this style.
Jiu-Jitsu- Also deadly, focuses on slamming down on your opponent.
A lot of getting hit and some physical activity.
OR…
XMA- That is, extreme martial arts, this stuff is everything combined. Deadly and you need lots of practice and patience.
Well, i am a teacher of two martial arts and a practioner of 3 others. I teach ITF Taekwon-do and as a striking martial art i believe it has no rival as it is based on the scientific movement of the body rather than flashy moves like other martial arts have. Self defense for TKD is great to. It is also deeply traditional. However fitness wise i teach Kickboxing and everyone in the class, me included, are dripping with sweat b the end. The others i practice are BJJ that is good but not great at striking, virtually none actually. Ninjitsu is good and very physical but the methods are difficult and can fail horribly if done even slightly wrong. The other martial art i do is Capoira, the toughest fitness wise in my opinion but it is poor and unrealistic for fighting or self defense, looks amazing though. If you want to cover all demands i would choose Taekwon-do, make sure its ITF though, and you are under a reputable instructor.
